The truck's price is the same everywhere — what moves the total is where you register it. No-sales-tax states like New Hampshire, Montana, and Alaska sit at the bottom; high-rate metros and states with steep registration fees push the top. A few states tax the vehicle on a flat statewide rate that's lower than the local sales tax (New Mexico is a flat 4%, Minnesota a flat 6.875%), and a handful collect the tax at the DMV when you register rather than at checkout — so it isn't in the order total, but you still owe it.

Purchase-tax coverage
Every US ZIP covered — priced per ZIP where the tax varies, one verified statewide rate where it doesn't
We return a purchase rate for every US ZIP (40,903). A purchase pays the same local sales rate a lease does, so the local rates we reconciled against Tesla's lease checkout anchor the purchase rate too: of the 16,193 ZIPs in the 17 states where tax varies by ZIP, 16,046 (99%) carry a Tesla-matched local rate; every ZIP in the rest of the country rides one verified statewide rate — exact because the tax doesn't vary by ZIP. A purchase then layers a verified DOR rule where it differs — Florida caps its county surtax at the first $5,000, Washington adds a 0.5% motor-vehicle surtax, and NM and MN tax vehicles at a flat statewide rate (4% and 6.875%). Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Wyoming collect the tax at the DMV when you register — Tesla shows $0 at checkout, but you still owe it. Rules DOR-verified 2026-07-07.
Methodology
How this is built
Each state is the same Cybertruck Premium AWD cash purchase — $79,990 plus $2,245destination and order fees — with the state's vehicle sales/use tax on the full price and its registration fee. All-in cashis the total to buy outright: vehicle + fees + tax + registration. Tax rules are calibrated to each state's Department of Revenue — including the states that tax vehicles on a flat statewide rate decoupled from local sales tax (NM 4%, MN 6.875%) and the extra motor-vehicle surtaxes some states add (WA +0.5%). ZIP-rated states are computed at their largest metro; local rates vary. We say calibrated, not guaranteed; confirm your exact figure on Tesla before ordering.
